Throughout my engagement with the Punjab Police Department, I have had the privilege of contributing significantly to its development and reform. Alhamdulillah, As the youngest individual to chair over 20 meetings with police officials from various ranks, I have utilized my platform to advocate for essential changes rooted in the teachings of Allama Iqbal, emphasizing truth, justice, and bravery. My journey commenced as a first speaker, delivering lectures to hundreds of police officials, where I addressed critical issues and proposed comprehensive reforms aimed at transforming the police system in Pakistan.
One of my key suggestions has been the establishment of a community policing model. This model advocates for a closer, more cooperative relationship between the police force and the communities they serve. By fostering mutual trust and understanding, we can create a safer environment for all citizens. I have emphasized the importance of transparency in police operations, ensuring that all actions are conducted fairly and are open to public scrutiny. This transparency is crucial for building public trust and ensuring that the police are seen as protectors of the people, rather than enforcers of authority.
Merit-based recruitment and promotion within the police force have also been central to the proposed reforms. By ensuring that all appointments are based on qualifications and performance rather than connections or favoritism, we can cultivate a police force that is both competent and motivated. This meritocratic approach is aligned with Allama Iqbal’s vision of a just and fair society.
In my last speech in February 2023, before I departed abroad for further qualifications and global engagements with international institutes and leaders, I reiterated these points, inspiring many officials to adopt a more progressive and community-focused approach. The feedback from these sessions has been overwhelmingly positive, with numerous officers expressing newfound motivation and a deeper understanding of their role within the community.
Although I am currently abroad, The momentum we have built cannot be allowed to wane. I understand that these reforms will take time and that my beloved country, Pakistan, is going through a crucial period. However, I believe that this hard time is not forever and that a good time awaits us after this difficult period. Our commitment as a nation will make this possible. Pakistan’s police system is in dire need of modernization, and I firmly believe that our collective efforts will eventually bear fruit. By embracing a model based on truth, justice, and bravery, we can ensure that the police force becomes a pillar of integrity and trust in our society.
